About me

I’m a dancer and choreographer, curator and self-professed dance fanatic. I love provoking opinions and creating unforgettable dance pieces.

Tarik Burnash began his career as a dancer and choreographer after studying dance and improvisation at the School of Dramatic Art in Moscow headed by Anatoly Vasiliev in 1997. He worked as a guest choreographer and created his own works in Russia and Europe. His piece Luftmangel was nominated for the Russian national theater award Golden Mask in 2009. The solo piece “Several Ways to Start a Conversation” is created with the support of the Prokhorov Fund at the Residency at art venue Stantsia in Kostroma, 2022. His project SMRT was created with the support of SDVIG.SPACE in St.Petersburg in 2021. Tarik choreographed, to explore the complex relationship between people and life. Improvisation, movement research and the translation of discursive questions into dance practice are important tools in his work. The language of dance emerges from the personal physical reactions and experiences of the dancers and the system of symbolic relationships between people.

Tarik's pieces were presented at many international festivals: Dublin Fringe Festival / Dublin, Capital D / Newcastle, Youngblood / Leeds, Resolution! / London, Great Britain, Baltic university of Dance / Gdansk, Free Dance / Dnipro / Ukraine, Aerodance / Amsterdam, Unidram / Potsdam, ADF / USA.
